  • Marguerite Gong Hancock is the Vice President of Innovation of the Computer History Museum and is a political economist who spent 20 years at Stanford University building several international programs at the intersection of technology, business, and society. She has served as an advisor to government, education, and business leaders in the US, Europe, and Asia, and she holds a graduate degree from Harvard.

STATE OF THE VALLEY 2022: TRENDS & CHALLENGES | 9:45 AM

  • Russell Hancock is President and CEO of Joint Venture Silicon Valley. He is a civic leader, community gatherer, institution builder, social entrepreneur, and outspoken advocate for regionalism. Dr. Hancock also serves as President of the Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies, a think tank housed at Joint Venture, providing data and analysis about the world’s most dynamic economy. Educated as an undergraduate at Harvard, Russell received a PhD in political science from Stanford University where he currently teaches in the Public Policy Program. Considered one of the Valley’s leading expositors, his interviews regularly appear in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Forbes. He and his wife have three children and three grandchildren.

COVID-19 AND BEYOND: STANFORD HEALTH CARE'S MODEL FOR INNOVATION AND IMPACT | 10:30 am

  • David Entwistle is President and CEO of Stanford Health Care (SHC). He is a recognized health care thought leader on hospital quality improvement and digital health innovation. Among other achievements, Entwistle spearheaded the completion of the new Stanford Hospital, which opened to patients in fall 2019, representing the culmination of more than a decade of planning and a critical component of Stanford Medicine’s COVID-19 response. While making key contributions to the COVID-19 response in Silicon Valley, SHC continued to achieve recognition for quality, safety, and excellence from LeapFrog, Vizient, U.S. News & World Report, and CMS. He joined SHC in 2016 with extensive executive experience at leading academic medical centers and serves on the boards of the American Hospital Association, the AAMC Council of Teaching Hospitals, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and Vizient.

THE SILICON VALLEY ECOSYSTEM: A BIOTECH ENTREPRENEUR'S INSIDER VIEW | 11:00 AM

  • Curtis Layton is CEO, CSO, and Co-Founder of Protillion Biosciences, an early-stage Silicon Valley biotech start-up. Spun out of Stanford University, Protillion Biosciences is commercializing a disruptive technology for therapeutic antibody discovery. Curtis developed the founding technology for Protillion in the course of his work as a research scientist and postdoctoral fellow in the Genetics Department at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University in Computational Biology and also holds a B.S. in Zoology from Brigham Young University.

PROMOTING WELLNESS IN A POST-PANDEMIC WORLD: RESEARCH AND PRACTICE | 11:30 AM

  • Mickey Trockel is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and Director of Evidence Based Innovation for the Stanford University School of Medicine WellMD Center. Dr. Trockel also serves as the chair of the Physician Wellness Academic Consortium Scientific Board, which is a group of academic medical centers working together to improve physician well-being. His previous research included focus on college student health, and evaluation of the efficacy of a national evidence based psychotherapy dissemination effort. He is particularly interested in developing and demonstrating the efficacy of interventions designed to promote wellbeing. He holds a BS in Health Education and MS in Community Health from Brigham Young University and PhD in Community Health from University of Illinois, Urbana and MD from University of Illinois Chicago.

Lunch Keynote: GLOBAL HUMANITARIAN SERVICE | 12:00 PM

  • Shawn Michael Johnson is the Vice President and Director of Operations of the Latter-day Saint Charities. In this role, Shawn oversees the humanitarian efforts for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including emergency response efforts, global development programs, and relationships with key non-governmental organizations in providing care and relief throughout the world to people of all backgrounds. Since 1985, Latter-day Saint Charities and its affiliates have provided over $2.5 billion worth of assistance in 199 countries and territories. In 2020 the organization served millions of people with over 2,000 partners, including COVID-19 response efforts of 1,031 projects in 151 countries. Shawn has served on boards including Delta Air Lines, General Motors, and the United Way. Shawn studied International Business and Business Administration at the University of Utah. He enjoys living in Utah with his wife Anna-Marie and their three children.
